Damage to materials

Although gelatin is quite tough it is in a very thin layer and is very susceptible to physical damage such as scratching. Film bases are similarly susceptible to scratching and tearing. Care in handling and ensuring that any mechanical equipment is correctly adjusted will prevent damage from occurring.

Gelatin is a protein and as such makes a good nutrient source for various biological vectors such as moulds, bacteria and insects.
